About Us

Book and Street Smart Organization (B.A.S.S.) is a nonprofit founded in 2023, dedicated to creating lasting social change and ending violence in underserved communities. The organization blends practical “street smarts” with academic “book smarts” to offer mentorship, resources, and programs for healing and rebuilding entire neighborhoods.

Our Mission and Motto

The B.A.S.S. mission is to serve underserved communities by, organizing community events, and fostering civic engagement. Our motto, “Serving. Healing. Rebuilding.,” embodies a commitment to holistic community transformation through empowerment and education.


Who We Serve

– Individuals, families, and communities impacted by violence

– People of all ages, with support tailored to youth, adults, and returning citizens

– Over 4,000 people supported last year, with 150+ healthy homes created and 1,000+ marginalized individuals aided


What We Do

– Provides trauma-informed programs, counseling, skill-building, and support

– Champions violence prevention, civic engagement, and outreach through structured events and resources

– Partners with local groups and encourages volunteerism to amplify impact


Our Programs


–G.R.E.A.T. Life Mentoring Program: Supports urban young adults with trauma-informed care and empowerment.

– Purpose Driven Workforce Program: Equips returning citizens/ex-offenders for employment through training and mentorship.

– S.A.F.E DAYS Initiative: Hosts violence-free, family events promoting community, safety, and education.

– Paid For Past: Focuses on reducing recidivism and reintegrating ex-offenders into society.

– Mustard Seed Program: Provides temporary low-income housing with a focus on personal and financial growth.

– Roots to the Streets Movement/6th Amendment Initiative: Aims for peace and civic involvement by educating citizens on jury selection and promoting voter registration.
